Pumo deriva dal latino pomum che significa "frutto". La sua forma richiama il bocciolo racchiuso tra quattro foglie di acanto, quindi la vita che nasce, rinnovandosi. E' simbolo di prosperità e di fecondità ma anche di castità, immortalità e resurrezione.
